Virostyle: Evolution and Diversity of Pathogen Lifestyles

Coordinator: Vincent PEDERGNANA

Context:

Evolution, diversity, and intra- and interspecies interactions in viral and bacterial models; biological information flows and infections

Objectives:

We study intra- and interspecies interactions and changes in the bacterial diversity of vaginal microbiota with the objective of treating bacterial vaginosis through phage therapy. We analyse the impact of host-parasite interactions in the diversity of clinical presentations of viral infections, with a focus on HCV, Dengue virus, HPVs and PyVs. We also endeavour to understand the impact of variations in fidelity during the flow of biological information on infections.

Perturbations, Evolution, and Virulence in Populations and Communities

Coordinator: Christine CHEVILLON

Context:

Study on the impact of environmental perturbations on host-parasite interactions, from the level of organisms to that of populations and communities.

Objectives:

To understand the risks of disease transmission based on the genetic and phenotypic characteristics of (micro- or macro-) parasites and their vectors (molluscs, arthropods) and the perturbations to which parasite-host-environment systems are subjected. We combine empirical, experimental, and modelling approaches. Our results are intended to lead to practical recommendations for farmers, breeders, and managers in order to help them implement practices capable of limiting the risks of transmission.
