Data security & Information system

Information system description :

  • Collab :

A Drive-type collaborative space for teams (more details in the Access to Collab section below). Unsuitable for storing massive datasets (see Hopper and Evomics).

  • Chat :

Instant messaging of the Unit similar to Whatsapp® or Slack® (more details in the Access to Chat section below).

  • Evomics :

NAS for collaborative project data such as ANR, ERC…, capacity of 190 TB (as of 01/07/2024). Contact a member of the network and data group for more information.

  • Hopper :

NAS pour les données de projets collaboratifs de type ANR, ERC…, capacité de 190 To (au 01/07/2024). Contactez un membre du groupe réseau et données pour plus d’informations.

Data security

  • Secure hosting at the National Center for Higher Education Computing.
  • Data redundancy thanks to RAID5 mode.
  • Collab: daily backups on a second NAS and on the encrypted Synology cloud hosted in Germany.
  • For projects hosted on Hopper/Evomics and requiring a high level of data security, possibility on simple request to perform regular data backup on a second NAS.

Acces to COLLAB :

Collab is accessible to all members of the Unit identified in a team.

Collab is accessible 24/7 via a web browser (https://collab.net.mivegec.fr/drive/), via an iPhone and Android application. A software client is also available for Mac / Windows / Linux and allows to propose the backup of sensitive data and/or the synchronization of data on several computers (home PC, files used in the context of collaboration…).

Acces to CHAT :

Chat is accessible to all members of the Unit identified in a team via a web browser (https://collab.net.mivegec.fr/chat/) or an iPhone / Android application.

Encrypted instant messaging whose conversations are hosted at CINES. It thus advantageously replaces software of the type “Whatsapp®” and “Slack®”, whose conversations are hosted abroad.

Allows the transfer of heavy files between collaborators, offers an instant video conferencing service, a polling system…

Backup of massive data on HOPPER / EVOMICS :

Requires the installation of a VPN client (VPN_CINES; different from the one provided as standard by IRD), whose request is made to the DDUNI, via the portal https://assitance-informatique.ird.fr, item, “Rights, access and connection” / “VPN”.

  • Hopper :

Direct access to the address https://data.net.mivegec.fr

  • Evomics :

Evomics is only accessible once the VPN is activated, at the address https://10.4.91.10

(file in progress)

Allowing external collaborators to Mivegec to use the information system :

As a member of the Unit, you are likely to collaborate with people outside the Unit on a project requiring the hosting of massive OMICS type data. MIVEGEC gives the possibility to give collaborators access to the Unit’s Hopper NAS, hosted at the National Center for Higher Education Computing and responsible for storing data. If you need to invite collaborators to share or even host data on Hopper, please follow this procedure.

Data management plan (D.M.P) :help in writing part 3 :

The network and data group provides Unit members with a document (FR/EN) corresponding to part 3 of the Data Management Plan required by the ANR: Storage and backup during the research process (3a and 3b).
