INCT-Pox viruses

The INCT POX will study the poxviruses, a family of viruses that infect animals and invertebrates. Some of these microorganisms are the cause of diseases such as smallpox, now eradicated worldwide, and monkeypox, and also the vaccinia virus, which has been causing diseases in rural areas in Brazil for more than 20 years. The project will evaluate epidemiological, virological, immunopathological and clinical data in patients and to carry out serological and genomic surveillance. Studies will be developed in different biomes, geographic regions, urban, rural and wild areas
