Des \u00e9l\u00e9phants et des hommes au Laos<\/strong><\/p>\n

Les \u00e9l\u00e9phants sont des herbivores g\u00e9n\u00e9ralistes et ont besoin d’un r\u00e9gime alimentaire diversifi\u00e9 qu’ils adaptent en fonction de la saison et de leur \u00e9tat physiologique. Il existe des preuves sugg\u00e9rant que les \u00e9l\u00e9phants ing\u00e8rent des plantes sp\u00e9cifiques en fonction de leur \u00e9tat de sant\u00e9 ; mais les comportements d’autom\u00e9dication des \u00e9l\u00e9phants ont \u00e9t\u00e9 tr\u00e8s peu document\u00e9s. Dans une \u00e9tude au Laos, nous avons enregistr\u00e9 comment l’observation de ces comportements d’autom\u00e9dication des \u00e9l\u00e9phants par les cornacs vivant en contact \u00e9troit avec eux est li\u00e9e \u00e0 certaines utilisations de plantes m\u00e9dicinales dans la pharmacop\u00e9e traditionnelle locale. Cependant, ces connaissances sont en grand danger de se perdre en raison des changements de r\u00f4les des \u00e9l\u00e9phants et des cornacs dans la soci\u00e9t\u00e9.<\/p>\n

Afin de contribuer \u00e0 la conservation de ces connaissances ethno-pharmacologiques uniques et de mettre en \u00e9vidence leur potentiel th\u00e9rapeutique, nous avons men\u00e9 une \u00e9tude approfondie des comportements d’alimentation et d’autom\u00e9dication des \u00e9l\u00e9phants en Asie du Sud-Est continentale avec la participation des cornacs, ainsi que de la pharmacop\u00e9e humaine locale.<\/p>\n
